“Hopefully I can play a match against her,” Leylah Fernandez hopes to share the court with Serena Williams once
Leylah Fernandez, the 19-year-old from Canada, made waves at the French Open before losing to Italian Martina Trevisan in the quarterfinals. She certainly grabbed everyone’s attention with her stunning performances throughout the tournament. Being this talented at the young age of 19 has made her all the more popular. She was unfortunately sidelined from Wimbledon this year after a stress facture she suffered at Roland Garros.
Serena Williams missed the start of the 2022 season as well as the rest of the 2021 season after suffering an injury at Wimbledon last year. The 23-time Grand Slam winner was coy about when she might make a comeback. But right when Wimbledon was around the corner, the 40-year-old revealed that she had accepted a wildcard to play in the grass-court slam.
“Tennis has missed her. She’s a big legend” Leylah Fernandez on Serena Williams’ comeback
