Nick Kyrgios‘ mother has been struggling with mental health issues for some time now. She even had to seek the assistance of a psychologist for this. Watching her son’s matches made her more stressed, which caused these problems in the first place.
She finally opened up publicly about her situation and how she overcame it. She also came to Melbourne Park to see his son play in the Australian Open. However, injury concerns left the Australian star out of the tournament. Nill, speaking in an interview, revealed his son’s emotional message to her.
She went on explaining, how watching her son play put her in a difficult situation mentally. Speaking to the Herald, she said “I haven’t watched him play for a while, actually. I can’t expose myself to that anxiety. I go into a really strange panic … It actually got to a stage where I sought help. I was seeing a psychologist for six months. I was not in a good place. My anxiety level watching Nick was so high.”
However, Nill’s psychologist insisted she visits Melbourne and watches her son play. She explained that this would help her overcome her fears. Unfortunately, Nick has suffered an injury and has withdrawn from the competition altogether.
Speaking about his withdrawal, she said “That’s fine. I had to still come. My psychologist says I have to watch him. Otherwise, I’ll never be able to sit there and watch him ever again. You have to face your fears. That’s what they say.” She further added saying “He messaged this morning and said, ‘I love you, Mama’.” However, she informed that she didn’t reply to him as she wanted him to sort out his issues first.
