World No.9 Hubert Hurkacz, who was initially not qualified to feature in the ATP Finals in Turin, has now been given an entry in the tournament. This happened due to the sudden withdrawal of the Greek ace Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Polish will try and make full use of this opportunity as he will face the World No.1 Novak Djokovic in the final round-robin match of the green group. Ahead of his challenging encounter against the 24-time Grand Slam champion, Hurkacz made a heartwarming promise to a young fan in a viral video, promising him his racket if he manages to take on the mighty Serb in the next round.

Hurkacz was not in the top 8 who were qualified for the ATP Finals. He missed out by just a spot. However, in a surprising turn of events, Tsitsipas pulled out mid-game against World No.6 Holger Rune after the latter was leading the match, 2 sets to 1. As the Greek tennis professional handed a walkover, the Pole had to take a quick flight to Turin and prepare for his match against Djokovic.

It will be a tough challenge for the Polish to try and overcome the Serbian. However, recently the World No.1’s clash against Jannik Sinner proved that he too is beatable and this will give some sort of hope to Hurkacz coming as the underdog in this clash. He has also promised a young fan his racket if he manages to overcome Novak Djokovic in their next encounter.

After a surprising loss to Jannik Sinner, Djokovic will look to perform well against Hubert Hurkacz

In a shocking turn of events, Italian Jannik Sinner was able to overcome the reigning US Open champion Novak Djokovic in a 3-set thriller that lasted for about 3 hours. This win is a setback for the Serbian and he will definitely look to defeat Hubert Hurkacz in the last group stage match in his draw.

Hurkacz has been looking in great shape, having recently won the Shanghai Masters. He also managed to reach the finals of the Indoor tournament in Basel, where he lost to the defending champion, Felix Auger-Aliassime. The Polish will look to make full use of his opportunity here at the ATP Finals and possibly create a stir if he manages to overcome the Serbian legend.
