Iga Swiatek the world number one has emerged as the winner of the 2022 US Open after beating the world number 5 Ons Jabeur in straight sets 6-2, 7-6(5) in just one hour and 51minutes of play. This is her second Grand Slam title of the year and third singles Grand Slam title overall in her kitty.

With this win, she became the second female player in the Open era to win her first six sets in the Grand Slam finals and is also the first player since Angelique Kerber in 2016 to win two or more Grand Slam titles in a single campaign.

Swiatek defeated Aryna Sabalenka 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the semi-finals to reach her first final at the Flushing Meadows. In the quarterfinals, she defeated the American Jessica Pegula in straight sets. She defeated Jasmine Paolini, former US Open champion Sloane Stephens, Lauren Davis, and Jule Niemeier in earlier stages of the competition. But she had disappointing second-round eliminations at the hard-court tournaments that are the build-up to the US Open.

But her 18-match winning streak on the clay court was broken after her quarter-final loss at the Poland Open to the eventual winner Caroline Garcia. Her 37-match winning streak was also broken after the third-round defeat in the 2022 Wimbledon Championship by Alize Cornet.
