“Hypocrisy at its best,” Taylor Fritz’s sanctimony gets called out on social media as he advocates mental health a day after bullying Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Laver Cup
Stefanos Tsitsipas and Taylor Fritz
On Sunday night, Team World shocked Team Europe at the Laver Cup to lift their maiden title in five appearances. Frances Tiafoe was the man that bought Team World home as he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets 1-6,7-6(11),10-8 to secure the Laver Cup. Team World was leading 10-8 before Tiafoe’s match and with two matches to go, all Tiafoe had to do was defeat Tsitsipas and he did exactly that.
Adrenaline was running high for Team World during Tiafoe’s match against Tsitsipas. They were very close to claiming their maiden Laver Cup title so naturally, they were pumped up. But they overdid things to an extent where they started behaving inappropriately towards Tsitsipas. They started hurling racist comments and even made jokes about his dad.
In a very aggressive manner, while changing sides, Tiafoe yelled, “I’m gonna own that Greek yogurt” and when asked about it after the match, didn’t feel the need to apologize about it. “You know, I see Stef across the court and I’m, like, I’m licking my lips playing that guy. I want to win. So, yeah, I’m just happy I got over the line. Yeah, like we just like Greek yogurt, so it was good,” Tiafoe said.
Tommy Paul, who was an alternate for Team World made some bad remarks about Tsitsipas’ dad. “I’m gonna get in his head with the daddy jokes,” Paul said. Amidst all this, Taylor Fritz, one of the biggest names on Team World’s roster, was seen laughing uncountably and didn’t bother to call out or correct his teammates.
Fritz ironically took to social media to preach about mental health just a day after bullying Tsitsipas on the camera. “Taking care of my mental health helps me celebrate wins, overcome losses, and always keep moving forward and getting better,” he wrote on Twitter as part of a promotional activity.
