“Hypocrite and hypochondriac”- Rafael Nadal slammed over his old comments on Novak Djokovic’s injury during the Australian Open 2021
Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal won his 14th French Open title and 22nd Grand Slam trophy on Sunday, defeating Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 in the final, despite receiving daily pain-killing injections in his problematic left foot. His victory occurred 17 years to the day after he won the French Open for the first time as a 19-year-old in 2005, making him the open’s oldest winner.
En route to the title, Nadal beat Novak Djokovic in three sets in the quarter-final. That isn’t the most intriguing aspect, though. The interesting part is that Nadal slammed Novak Djokovic’s Australian Open victory in 2021 while the Serb was recovering from an abdominal injury, and one year later, the same Nadal won the French Open while suffering from a terrible foot injury.
Even though Rafael Nadal didn’t directly criticise Djokovic in 2021, he made certain comments that implied that he did. The Mallorcan talked about how difficult it would be to compete in a grand slam competition while suffering from an abdominal rupture. He said, “If you have some pain and it’s not putting you in a situation that limits you, the movements, maybe you can find a way. But when you really, really have an injury, it’s impossible to win a tournament like this.”
Fans on Twitter slam Rafael Nadal on his comments
His remarks evidently did not age well, as the Spaniard was recently chastised on Twitter following his record 14th French Open victory. Fans slammed him, with some even calling him a “hypocrite.”
