Frances Tiafoe and Jessica Pegula
Frances Tiafoe is slowly moving up the ladders to make his place in the history of tennis with his unforgettable performance at the 2022 US Open as he made his way to his first singles Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open defeating Andrey Rublev in straight sets. He became the first American to reach the semifinal at the US Open since Andy Roddick in 2006.
Tiafoe put up another significant victory to reach the quarter-finals when he ended Rafael Nadal‘s quest for his 23rd singles major title defeating him in 4-sets which is the biggest win for the American. He became the first American to defeat Nadal at a Major since wildcard James Blake at the 2005 US Open.
He had made a promising start to his hard-court season by reaching the semi-finals of the Atlanta Open and the quarter-finals of the Citi Open but had disappointing early-round eliminations in the Canadian Open as well as in the Cincinnati Masters event.
“He’s so much fun to watch, and so charismatic, “Jessica Pegula lauds Frances Tiafoe’s great run at the US Open

Jessica Pegula, the quarter-finalist of the US Open who was defeated by the world number one Iga Swiatek, during the post-match interview, applauded his compatriot for a great run at the US Open, especially without displaying much on-court drama antics. She even spoke about the special bond she shares with Tiafoe.
She said “I’m always kind of got on him. Can you win a match, like, normal, and not be like this whole theatrical event? I always give him c**p. It’s amazing to see how he has played so much more focused even though he had a couple of tough matches in Montreal and Cincinnati and all this stuff. I was like, You’re playing so much better. It’s coming. It’s just coming for that one match.”
She further added “It’s really nice to see. He’s so much fun to watch, and so charismatic. Nothing but good things to say about him. I’m really proud of him for really focusing on these last couple of weeks because he can be all over the place. The way he’s taking care of business has been really, really impressive. Yeah, I know he’s super hyped up and ecstatic, but such a good story on him. I just wish I could join him or Coco could join him or something like that.“
In the semifinals of the US Open, he will be facing Carlos Alcaraz who defeated Jannik Sinner in one of the longest matches of the US Open displaying some extraordinary level of fitness and gameplay.
