The talk in the sporting community at the moment is the FIFA World Cup, which is well underway in Qatar. Only 32 nations have managed to qualify for the event, with several good footballing nations missing out on the World Cup. Norway also failed to qualify for the mega event for the sixth consecutive time. Their last appearance came at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, something which was touched upon by Norwegian tennis star, Casper Ruud.

Casper Ruud is currently competing in the Latin America Exhibition tour, which also involves Rafael Nadal. In one of the press conferences, he was asked about Norway’s absence at the FIFA World Cup.

The tennis star was pretty straightforward in his analysis of his country’s absence at the event. He stated that Norway have two good players in the form of Erling Haaland and Martin Odegaard, however, they lack quality in other positions.

Norway have a pretty young squad, who are not rich in terms of experience of playing on the International stage. Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland is certainly an asset to have up top, with Martin Odegaard slotting in just behind the talisman.

Casper Ruud reveals that he wants to experience the thrill of the World Cup at least once in his lifetime. He is desperate for Norway to qualify for the event in the future.

“Norway have a young team with Haaland and Ødegaard… but nine more players also have to play well… We have not been in the World Cup since 1998 — the year I was born, so I have never experienced it. I hope I can do it before I die, at least,” said Casper Ruud.

Casper Ruud has had a breakthrough year on tour in 2022. The Norwegian star finished as the runner-up at the French Open and the US Open. He also ended as the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Nitto ATP Finals just a couple of weeks ago.
