US Open finalist Casper Ruud, who has a long-standing rivalry with the controversial Australian tennis professional Nick Kyrgios, reached his second major finals yesterday when he ousted Karen Khachanov in the championship semi-finals in a jaw-dropping match ending with a score of 7-6(5), 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

In a post-match interview with the Norwegian tennis player at the New York arena, he expressed his outlook on how he perceives tournaments while on tour quoting “I take every game I play seriously and every game is important. It goes to show why I’m lucky to become world No. 1 because I’ve won three 250s this year, which ultimately gives me 750 points in the race,” contradicting Kyrgios who took a stance against this methodology.

Casper Ruud, who earlier this season lost his French Open title to the notorious ‘King of Clay’ and former world No. 1 Rafael Nadal has yet again proved himself to be dominant by enabling himself to enter another major final yesterday. Although his success him well celebrated, there are still some skeletons in his closet that needs confronting and that’s what he did at the US Open press conference.

The global tennis community is well-aware of the feud between Casper and Nick Kyrgios which rose to fame back in 2019 when the Aussie had an on-court outburst of throwing chairs at the crowd at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia, which earned him a call-out from Casper, who in a press release said he’s “an idiot.”

The clash between the two fumed and grew over the years and earlier this year, Kyrgios while talking to the press stated that he felt not every Grand Slam is important and the tournaments held on clay courts are a waste of time, which was taken into consideration as his indirect remark to the Norwegian who holds several merit records on the clay surface.

In a US Open press conference which was held after Casper won his semi-final, he was asked to delegate his feelings on potentially becoming the world No. 1 if he wins the championship title, he went on record stating “If I had played these tournaments thinking, yes, it’s not that important because a Grand Slam is coming up, I wouldn’t be in this position.” This statement was seen as proof and message in itself to the 27-year-old Aussie, countering his previous statements to help exhibit the point that every match is important.

At the US Open finals, which is to be held at the glorious Arthur Ashe Stadium tomorrow, Casper stands to face the challenge of the 19-year-old Spaniard, Carlos Alcaraz Garfia, who in his semi-final round got the better of homeboy Frances Tiafoe in a neck to neck competition.
