Carlos Alcaraz is the 2022 US Open winner and also the new World No. 1 making him the youngest player to hold the ranking since 1972. His coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero still believes that the 19-year-old needs to work on his game and has a lot of things to improve.

To put things in perspective, Alcaraz has won 4 titles this year, two Masters-1000 in Miami and Madrid, two ATP-500 titles in Rio and Barcelona and has now clinched his first-ever Grand Slam title, all before his 20th birthday, a massive portfolio to have as a teenager. For Ferrero, a lot can be improved upon.

With Alcaraz proving his mettle once again by defeating Casper Ruud in the finals of the US Open, the entire tennis community is in awe of the teenager and glad that the hype and support that has been around him since the last season, the Spaniard has justified it brilliantly.

But for Ferrero, Alcaraz still has potential to improve and the coach, despite being one of the happiest people in the world to see Carlos win a major so early in his career, has rightly pointed out the areas where the newly crowned World No. 1 can work more.

“We will continue in the same direction. As I repeat to him, I think he is 60% of what he can be in terms of his game. He can improve a lot of things. Return, serve. Backhand in some moments. The consistency, especially mentally. He knows it and I know we have to keep working.

“Just because you’re number 1 in the world doesn’t mean it’s over. You have to keep working, and keep playing at a very high level to win again. We both know that. I’ll be there to remind him,” said Ferrero speaking in a press conference after Alcaraz’s crowning moment.

With Alcaraz qualifying for the ATP Finals this year and now leading the Tour for most titles and most finals reached, the youngster will be monitored more closely for the remainder of the season as he would look to add more titles to his trophy cabinet over the next couple of months.
