Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu became the first British woman to win the US Open title after Virginia Wade in the year 1977. After making her debut in the WTA tour in the year 2021, she is currently at the 10th spot, her career-best in the WTA rankings. She is looking strong to defend her title at the US Open 2022 as she loves playing on the hard court. Recently, she was named the ‘Best Athlete’ at the 2022 ESPY Awards.

She is a fierce player on the court with a unique style of play; her signature shot being the two-handed backhand. But, Raducanu is having a tough time due to her inconsistent form and injuries as she faced second-round exits at all three Grand Slams tournaments till now. Ahead of the US Open, she will be seen playing at the National Banks Open in Toronto.

“I would have pursued a career in finance” Emma Raducanu speaks of her career-options

Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu, recently in an interview with the students of Wolverley Secondary School, she spoke about how things have changed now and tennis has made her a better person with a lot of courage and confidence. She spoke “I used to be really shy as a young girl and playing tennis and beating the boys and coming back when I was losing, that just brought me a lot of confidence. Yeah, I can say that I’m definitely more comfortable and outgoing now than I was when I was younger, and I think tennis has brought me that.”

She further spoke about the testing times and how she went through a phase of self-doubt during the COVID-19 pandemic. She added “When you feel like you’re really low, then you can take a bit of comfort that something good is coming your way because it doesn’t last forever. No matter how down you might feel. It will make you so much stronger as a person too if you’ve had those low moments and you’ve overcome them. You’ll definitely feel a lot better about yourself later on.”

One of the students asked Raducanu about the career options she would have pursued other than tennis and she stated that she would have followed her parents’ footsteps and pursued a career in finance. She further added that one of the biggest sacrifices she encountered in her younger days was not having enough time to make friends in school as she was busy playing.
