“I wanna win 1 of the 3 Grand Slams left in 2022” Carlos Alcaraz growing in confidence to win a major this season
Carlos Alcaraz
World No. 6 Carlos Alcaraz has impressed the whole tennis fraternity this season having shown glimpses of his talent last season. He has already won 4 titles this season, the most by any player on the ATP Tour. Having started the season outside the Top-30, mid-way through the season, he is just 1 place shy from breaking into the Top-5 of the rankings.
With three of his four titles this season coming on Clay, the ATP-500 events in Rio and Barcelona followed by the 2022 Madrid Open, his second ATP-1000 title, the 19-year old is one of the favourites for the upcoming 2022 French Open. While Carlitos has remained humble about comparisons, he has not shied away from knowing that he is a title favourite at Roland Garros and is now fully focused on claiming his first Grand Slam title.
In his recent interview with Marca after winning the title in Madrid, the Spaniard talked about his goals for the season and how is he managing the life on Tour. Alcaraz also talked about his parallel with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero who won the 2003 Madrid Open and then the French Open a couple of weeks later.
“When I was little I saw myself winning Roland Garros. Now I have played all four and I have experienced all four and the truth is that they are spectacular and I have liked them very much. I like Wimbledon because of the essence it has, the elegance of the tournament… What can I say about New York and my first quarterfinals there. It was super special. I cannot say one in particular that I would like to win more than another. I would like to win them all.
“It’s obviously a good goal. Winning here gives me a lot of confidence ahead of Roland Garros and it’s something I have as my goal. My goal this year is to win a Grand Slam and hopefully, it will be in Paris. I consider myself a player with a good physique. Physically, as we say with my team, I am a bull. I’m not afraid to play five sets against the best, I’m ready. Playing very long games I take it as an advantage. My goal is to win one of the three Grand Slams that remain this year.” said Alcaraz during his interview.

Carlos Alcaraz talks of living life like a normal teenager
Having tasted success from a young age, Alcaraz has remained humble much to the credit of his coaching team who he credits for keeping him grounded. Carlitos continues to be the kid from El Palmar, in Murcia where he grew up.
“Totally. Yes, it is true that I have to refrain from doing many things when I go out, exposing myself publicly because people are getting to know me. But in my environment, I feel like a normal boy, with my friends, with the family… In Villena, I consider myself one more of the academy and I am one more in my group of friends.
“And that helps me later to be focused on my work, which in this case is tennis. Juan Carlos tells me that he spent a lot of time on the phone and on social networks, I have to know how to disconnect. Yes, I am a guy who uses the phone a lot,” added Alcaraz.
