Iga Swiatek, the current World No. 1 on the WTA Tour recently came out with strong statements. The statements were directed toward the recently revealed scandal in the Polish Tennis Association where the association’s president Miroslaw Skrzypczynski has been accused of a history of violence and sexual assault.
The revelations were made by Polish MP Katarzyna Kotula whose statements were backed by reports of Onet Janusz Schwertner. Skrzypczynski has been accused of molestation and assault of female players and his devilish acts extended to the players’ families as well as per Schwertner’s reports.
Swiatek did not speak on the case for nearly a fortnight. Having processed and understood all the information, she took to her Twitter handle where in two separate tweets, she issued her take both in Polish and English to reach out to as many followers as possible. She also informed them of a helpline number for any victims urging them not to hide and speak up and reach out.
Swiatek’s tweet got her the affection and praise from tennis fans and of them were former World No. 1 players Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. While Navratilova just added the ‘clap’ emoji while resharing Swiatek’s tweet, Evert added a message as well.
“Just read this… well done, @iga_swiatek for owning and using your platform to speak out about abuse towards women, not only in tennis, but in every field…It’s got to stop,” tweeted Evert.
Iga Swiatek to return to action soon

After a highly successful season where she won 8 titles from 9 finals including two Grand Slams, Swiatek is currently on a break away from tennis. The Pole will however return to action in a couple of weeks. Swiatek has signed up for the 2022 World Tennis League in Dubai scheduled from the 19th to the 24th of December.
Swiatek will be part of Team Kites where she is joined by Felix Auger-Aliassime, Gael Monfils, Eugenie Bouchard, and Sania Mirza. Swiatek is scheduled to take on Aryna Sabalenka, Caroline Garcia, and Anett Kontaveit during the group stages of the exhibition event in a bid to qualify for the finals.
The World No. 1 taking a firm stand shows the maturity the 21-year-old has. She has stayed true to her word of showing support for Ukraine ever since the War broke out on 24th February. Swiatek had also shown her disappointment in other colleagues for not continuing with their support to Ukraine further proving her worth as a Tour leader, not only in rankings but also in action.
