The WTA Finals will be played between October 29th and November 5th, and they will bring an end to the WTA’s 2023 season. All eyes will be set on Polish international Iga Swiatek in the tournament, who looks to win back her No. 1 position in the World Rankings. She will have to fight against current World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka for the year-end No. 1 position.

Aryna Sabalenka performed brilliantly in the 2023 US Open, whereas Iga Swiatek saw an early round of 16 exit from the tournament after her shocking defeat against Jelena Ostapenko. Although Sabalenka lost to Coco Gauff in the final of the tournament, her efforts were enough to bag her the World No. 1 spot, which she did by replacing Iga Swiatek. Currently, Sabalenka, Swiatek, and Coco Gauff are first, second, and third on the rankings, respectively.

Iga Swiatek has a good chance of becoming the year-end World No. 1 if she fairs well in the upcoming WTA Finals. In fact, if she maintains a perfect record in the group stages and proceeds to win the tournament, she will become World No. 1, provided Aryna Sabalenka is not the opponent that she has to face in the final. The Polish is just 630 points behind the Belarusian.

The Polish international is apparently enjoying her stay in Cancun, and she is not letting the pressure get to her. Iga Swiatek was recently experiencing Cancun from the sea on the deck of a ship. WTA posted a video of the same on their social media accounts.

Iga Swiatek has recently regained her long-lost form since her victory in the China Open. The four-time Grand Slam winner defeated Liudmila Samsonova in the final of the China Open to win the tournament. En route to the final, she also beat US Open 2023 winners Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia, which goes on to show that Iga is indeed back.

Iga Swiatek only won one Grand Slam in the 2023 season, i.e., the French Open. She had reached the final of the 2023 Australian Open as well but was defeated by Elena Rybakina in the final. It would be a fitting end to her season if she ends up being the year-end World No.1 by ousting Aryna Sabalenka.
