Iga Swiatek had a victorious triumph over Coco Gauff in the quarterfinals of the Roland Garros. The World No. 1 will be facing Beatriz Haddad Maia in the semi-finals of the major. While addressing the press, Swiatek refuted the unnecessary speculations on Gauff’s direct body shot at her during the match.

The Polish player has been playing outstanding tennis this year. After facing an early upset in the Australian Open, Swiatek won the Qatar Open title after defeating Jessica Pegula in straight sets. With the start of the clay tours, the 22-year-old claimed the Stuttgart Open title after her incredible win over Aryna Sabalenka. In the Madrid Open, Swiatek booked a consecutive final rematch with Sabalenka but fell short of the brilliant performance of the Belarussian player.

At Roland Garros, the defending champion has reached her second consecutive semi-final. She claimed her quarterfinal victory over Coco Gauff without dropping a single set in the tournament so far. During the press conference, the Polish player addressed the question regarding Gauff’s point-blank aim at her during the second set. Swiatek stated that it was just a close call on the net and that things happen during the match.

“Yeah, it is. I don’t really know if that was her only option or not, but I know Coco is a nice person, and she wouldn’t mean it. Nothing personal. It happens,” she said.

The controversy rose after Gauff, while playing aggressively, aimed a close net direct hit on the World No. 1. The Polish player tried her best to sway away but fell flat on the ground. However, the 19-year-old immediately apologized, but no words were exchanged between them on the court.
