Polish tennis stars Iga Swiatek and Agnieszka Radwanska are soon to lock horns in a tennis match. Radwanska, a former World No. 2 had long been the flagbearer of Polish tennis till her retirement in 2018 post which Iga, the current World No. 1, has taken up on that responsibility perfectly.

With the war between Russia and Ukraine not coming to an end even after 3-months and continues to wreak havoc in Ukraine, Swiatek has been a very vocal supporter of the European nation and played with a Ukrainian coloured ribbon on her cap ever since the war broke out showing support to the war-torn country. Amidst this, an exhibition match between the two Polish stars has been organised by the Ukrainian government with former World No. 3 and Olympics Bronze medallist Elina Svitolina overseeing the affairs.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the match in an official statement shortly after Svitolina was made an ambassador for UNITED24, a fundraiser created to support the people affected by the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Elina is the second sports personality to be made the ambassador after football legend Andriy Shevchenko.

“A charity match featuring world No.1, Iga Swiatek, is planned under the patronage of Elina Svitolina for the end of July,” read the statement. Svitolina after being named the ambassador had said, “Every time I won on the court, I was happy to bring victory to my country. I have always been proud to be Ukrainian. Today, when my country is facing a horrific enemy, I will not stand aside. I will do my best to help Ukraine win its most important fight. I am honoured to become part of UNITED24 and join efforts with the President of Ukraine.”

Swiatek‘s camp has accepted and acknowledged the invitation but hasn’t disclosed full details. “We are working with the entire team of Iga on a certain aid initiative for our friends from Ukraine, but we are not ready to talk about this project yet. In due course, we will officially announce it with all the details,” said Swiatek’s PR manager Paula Wolecka as per Ubitennis.
