“Impossible to imagine 5 months ago” Caroline Garcia lauded by fans as she wins the 2022 WTA Finals defeating Aryna Sabalenka in the finals

Caroline Garcia
Caroline Garcia has won the biggest title of her career as she overpowers Aryna Sabalenka in the title decider at the 2022 WTA Finals. After a close first set, things remained tight in the second set as well, but Garcia found a way as she clinched the title 7-6(4), 6-4 to win her fourth title of the season.
It was a clinical service game by Garcia firing 11 aces to Sabalenka’s 4. She also committed just 1 double fault while the Belarusian made 3. Despite this, Garcia could create only 1 break opportunity for her which she capitalized on. As for Sabalenka, she failed to create a single break opportunity for her, which ultimately cost her the match.
The difference between the two players’ points at the end was not much. Sabalenka won a total of 63 points, while Garcia had 68 points of her own. Garcia had to serve for the match and despite failing to convert her first championship point, she managed to clinch the second one and etch her name in history.
Caroline Garcia’s rise this season leaves the fans in her awe

Garcia was ranked 75th in the world when she started her season in Australia this year. Garcia couldn’t make much impact in the first half of the season being ranked outside the Top 50, even after Wimbledon was played out. However, in the hardcourt season that followed, the Frenchwoman rose to the top and is now the champion at the year-end championships.
Her biggest title prior to this came in the Cincinnati Open, where she started as a qualifier and went on to win the WTA-1000 title. She then managed to reach the semi-finals of the US Open. The two results boosted her rank massively as she broke into the Top-10 again and is now there to stay.
With the win, Garcia rises two spots in the rankings and will finish inside the Top-5 as the World No. 4. With 4375 points, she is less than 700 points away from World No. 2 Ons Jabeur‘s tally of 5055 points. Iga Swiatek would be a long shot as of now as the Pole seals the top spot with 11085 points to wrap up the year.
