“It’s like Tyson when he used to fight” Andy Roddick lauds the offensive gameplay of Iga Swiatek
Andy Roddick, Iga Swiatek
Iga Swiatek is the WTA world number 1, and she is looking invincible. Swiatek is racking up one tournament victory over another, and no player has been able to present a stiff challenge to her. It seems like within mere months, Swiatek has gone from just a top 10 player to “the player”. She has changed a lot from her conservative style of play she has opted for her natural gameplay, embraced and took herself to a different level.
Swiatek has won four tournaments in a row, namely, Qatar Open, then she won the sunshine double in the United States, and then she moved to win the Stuttgart Open in Germany. Swiatek pulled out of Madrid Open to nurse her shoulder and she will continue her claycourt camping in Italy as she looks forward to her second Grand Slam at the Roland-Garros. All this change is just due to her aggressive gameplay, as explained by Andy Roddick.
Andy Roddick talks about the changes in Iga Swiatek’s gameplay
Andy Roddick is an American tennis legend. He was the former world number 1 and now is a sports commentator. In the talk show on the Tennis channel highlighted the changes in the new and improved Iga Swiatek. He pointed out that:
“She said in December, and I’m gonna be more aggressive. I’m gonna go after my shots this year. I am totally gonna change my game with the offense this year. It’s not easy to put into practice that she has just decided that she is just going to manifest it through words, and actually being able to execute it is really something special. Because we knew she had the RPMs and the forehand, we knew she was a dogged competitor, already a major champion before this move, and the fact that she has been able to roll it out in real life match circumstances and is way better for it, she just dominates now. It’s like Tyson when he used to fight back in the day, and he would just walk up and start punching people; there was no dancing around. She just hits people in the mouth now; it’s fun to watch.”
Iga Swiatek will enter the Italian Open and even the French Open in the coming days as a heavy favorite to win the title.
