History is created again at the Australian Open as they hail a brand new champion. Outside of the big three, Jannik Sinner was crowned the new Australian Open champion after a fighting victory.

He was up against the very experienced Daniil Medvedev, who had been to two other Australian Open finals. This was the first for Sinner, who showed some nerves in the beginning, but as the game went on, the Italian channeled his best shots to get right back in the match.

Sinner was down two sets when he started making his way back into the match. It seemed like there was no hope left for the No. 4 seed, but by doing the unthinkable again, the 22-year-old posed a comeback of the ages.

With his comeback, he won his first-ever Grand Slam finals, etching his name in history. Delighted with his win, the Italian thanked his parents, who couldn’t be here, and hoped that everyone got the same kind of parents who allowed their child the freedom to do what he wanted and choose what was best for him.

Everyone who’s watching from home, especially my family.. I wish everyone could have my parents. They always let me choose whatever I wanted to. Even when I was younger, I played some other sports.. they never put pressure on me. I wish this freedom is possible for as many young kids as possible. Thank you so much to my parents
Said an emotional Sinner.

His parents might not have been here, but there were many fans here and in Italy who cheered their player on to a record-breaking Grand Slam win.
