Jannik Sinner has revealed that he doesn’t feel very comfortable talking about himself. The 2024 Australian Open champion prefers protecting his private life away from the public as his fame grows.

Sinner won the Australian Open in January after defeating the likes of Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev. On Sunday, he then defeated Alex de Minuar to win the Rotterdam Open, making it two title victories in two tournaments.

However, as more titles rack up for the Italian, he doesn’t want the fame that the sport brings to intrude into his private life. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the 22-year-old explained that it is not shyness rather the people close to him think the same about the issue.

I like talking about tennis, and sports in general. But if it refers to private life, it's true, I want to keep it that way. I want to protect the people closest to me, keeping them out of this. I see it as a small task to carry out, almost a duty: they helped me, as a young man, to gain self-confidence, and today in some way I want to protect them.

The new World No. 3 further added:

I might as well talk about it. But the people close to me think like me on this issue. Because they are very similar to me: we understand each other with a look, in a second.

Jannik Sinner would compete at the Indian Wells Tournament following his Rotterdam victory. The Italian who competed in 21 tournaments last year, is set to feature in a lower number of tournaments this season, as he is yet to lose a match.

Jannik Sinner’s perfect 2024 start earns him a big accomplishment

Sinner continued his perfect start of the 2024 season as he won the ABN AMRO Open title in Rotterdam on Sunday. The latest accomplishment now sees the Italian increase his unbeaten run to 15 matches, becoming the first man apart from the Big Three since Lleyton Hewitt to win his debut event as a Grand Slam champion.

The Italian had earlier won the Australian Open as his first tournament of the year. Since 2001, fifteen players have been unsuccessful in winning the Grand Slam tournament and the next tournament.

The likes of Andy Murray, Daniil Medvedev, and Carlos Alcaraz have all failed to achieve this feat.
