Jannik Sinner had been the wunderkind this season. The 22-year-old had a wonderful season, reaching the ATP Finals and winning the Davis Cup 2023 with his nation, Italy. Sinner went on to beat World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in three of the four meetups.
Though Nole beat Sinner in the ATP Finals, Sinner returned the favor by beating him twice in the Davis Cup semis, first in the singles and then in the decisive doubles.
Following the good performances against the Serb, World No. 4 gave another commanding performance in the finals of the Davis Cup. Sinner dominated Alex de Minaur to secure a decisive win in the finals.
His fellow countrymen celebrated the 22-year-old by chanting names and rhymes of his name on his arrival at the San Siro. Sinner had been pretty vocal about his love for football, especially for A.C. Milan. Thus, during this break, Sinner happened to be enjoying some Champions League football at the San Siro.
However, things were not very bright for the Rossoneri as they were demolished by Dortmund 1-3 on Tuesday. The only solitary goal came from Samuel Chukwueze. Keeping aside the results, it will be a memorable night for the 22-year-old.
He would never forget the time when an entire packed-up San Siro chanted his name on a Champions League night.
Is Jannik Sinner the next big thing?
Jannik Sinner is one of the most exciting talents going around, along with Carlos Alcaraz. After a dull beginning to the season, the way Sinner came to his own during the later part of the season speaks tons of his maturity.
Giving tough competition to someone of Nole’s stature is praiseworthy. The Italians not only competed but also beat the Serb on three occasions and, moreover, twice in one night.
Djokovic himself had lauded him heavily, calling him one of the best players of the next generation. Nole even went to the extent of saying that he would be surprised if Sinner didn’t win numerous Grand Slam titles across his career.
The entire country of Italy would like to get to chant his name like that more in the coming future. Sinner will next be featured on the hardcourts of the Australian Open.
