Australian Former World No.33 John Millman has come up with some serious accusations about the preferential treatment received by top-seeded players in Grand Slams citing the example of the French Open. He has openly criticized that it is not an even playing ground as the underdogs have to go through a lot more than what the tennis world knows of, to pull out better results.

As Millman said, “You don’t start at 0-0. By having unequal opportunities in tournament preparations, the odds before even walking onto the court are stacked against the underdog – for more reasons than most realise. Pending your ranking, whether you are a seed or not, will majorly impact your ability to best prepare at a tournament. The most significant advantage a seeded player will receive is practice court allocation.

Continuing his train of thought, Millman accused, “When the tournament (Indian Wells) found out that I still planned to use the court with a lesser-known player, they told me that because I was a nobody, I wouldn’t be allowed entry on the court. It’s hard to believe but they’d rather have the court empty than have a few “no names” hit on their precious bitumen.”

The Australian tennis star John Millman had a career of ups and downs. Despite all these, he will be remembered for his marathon encounter against the Swiss legend Roger Federer in the third round of the Australian Open 2020. Millman was one point away from having 4 match points in that dramatic encounter in which Federer prevailed, 4-6, 7-6(7-2), 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (10-8). The 4 hours 7 minutes thriller was one of the best matches of the tournament.

Millman had a career-high ranking of 33 in 2018 but with constant injury concerns and a dip in form, he is ranked at 239. He had his best years on tour until 2020 when he won his last ATP title on tour. Millman’s best Grand Slam performance dates back to the 2018 US Open where he reached the last 8.

When a renowned tennis player like Millman is coming up with strong accusations against the preferential treatment of top-seeded players, the tennis world is looking forward to hearing from the ATP and ITF on how they are going to rectify the current mismanagement.
