“Just the ones that talk too much,” Reilly Opelka cites Martina Navratilova’s example in defending his harsh statements on the tennis media
Martina Navratilova and Reilly Opelka
American big-serving giant Reilly Opelka has once again spoken about tennis media and has clarified the accusations he made on media a few weeks ago. During the recently concluded Laver Cup, Opelka was a commentator on Tennis Channel and got an opportunity to work with tennis legends Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver.
Opelka constantly takes to social media to criticize many renowned journalists and media organizations for their biased reporting and views. He had once made a comment that tennis media sucks. Brett Haber, a tennis consultant reminded Opelka that he had criticized tennis media a lot and it is a hypocrite of him to work with them now.
The American then clarified that he had never said ‘all’ tennis media sucks but targeted only the ones that talk too much and take themselves too seriously to mask insecurities.
“Was awesome working with legends like Martina Navratilova, Pam Shriver, and Lulu. FYI, never said all tennis media sucks, just the ones that talk too much and take themselves too seriously to mask insecurities.. those ones know who they are,” Opelka said.
Reilly Opelka slammed tennis journalist over Novak Djokovic’s vaccination row
A few months ago, Opelka took to social media to call out renowned journalist Ben Rothenberg. The American journalist had a very clear narrative over Djokovic’s anti-vaccine stand and Opelka didn’t like it at all. He accused the journalist of spreading misinformation, lying, and being incredibly biased.
“The good news here, is you lose so much credibility every time you spread misinformation. The bad news is, you don’t face any consequences (revoking of media credential) for being incredibly biased and blatantly lying,” Opelka tweeted.
