The Korea Open 2022 will be the 18th edition of the tournament and will see the tournament promoted to the WTA-250 category with the 2021 edition being played as a WTA-125 event. Earlier it was categorised as an ‘International’ tier event. It’s a combined event with the ATP event scheduled for a week later.

Top-seed Jelena Ostapenko starts against local girl Boyoung Jeong with the Latvia favourite to take on Anastasia Gasanova who starts against a qualifier. Chloe Pacquet takes on Katie Boulter with the winner set to take on 8th seeded Rebecca Marino who awaits a qualifier.

3rd seeded Magda Linette is scheduled to take on Arianne Hartono in the first round and the Pole is likely to take on the winner from the match between Kristina Mladenovic and Sohyun Park. Linda Fruhvirtova and Yanina Wickmayer locks horns in round 1 and the winner could well take on 6th seeded Emma Raducanu who starts against Moyuka Uchijima.

Maddison Inglis awaits a qualifier with a clash against defending champion Lin Zhu looking certain in the second round as Zhu starts against local girl Su-Jeong Jang.

5th seeded Varvara Gracheva takes on Anna Blinkova while Lizette Cabrera starts against Lulu Sun. 2nd seeded Ekaterina Alexandrova will clash with Asia Muhammad with the winner set to take on the victorious player from the all-Koream match between Dayeon Back and Na-Lae Han.

Linette displayed brilliant level at the Chennai Open and will battle for the title having qualified for the finals making her a strong favourite in the week in Korea. Linette leads Ostapenko 1-0 in head-to-head and could well increase her lead. Maria and Alexandrova haven’t met on the Tour yet and will only increase the thrill of the match as both look for maiden title this season.

Yet to meet in a main-draw match, Linette and Maria have clashed only once, that too in a qualifying round match. With both the players have had their moments this season, it seems Linette could be the one winning the Korea Open and taking the title home.
