Robson also spoke about her protest against Court in her playing days when she played at a court named after the former Australian player during the Australian Open.

Robson called out Court on what she called “ some pretty inexcusable comments” about the LGBTQIA+ community. She aired her views during the coverage of the Australian Open on Eurosport. Robson was seen attending the Midsumma festival, one of the biggest LGBTQIA + cultural festivals in Australia, during her regular segment on the channel.

When she was asked whether that was the first time she was wearing the pride flag, Robson said, “No, not at all. You got to represent on a day like today so happy to wear the rainbow, got the fan out as well. It’s a hot day, it’s the perfect accessory.” Her fellow pundit Alize Lin reminds her of another time she wore that symbol on court a decade ago. Robson remembers and says, “You know what, I didn’t even remember that. I wore some rainbow hairbands I think it was on Margaret Court Arena obviously after she came out and said some pretty inexcusable things in my opinion.”

Robson said she was happy to do so, as it is something she is passionate about. She stated that everyone should stand up for what they believe in. “I just think that if you’re passionate about something then you should absolutely stand up for what you believe in. I was happy to do it ten years ago and I’m happy to do it today,” she said.

Laura Robson is not the first to speak up about Court’s controversial comments. Other tennis stars have also actively involved themselves in the debate. The condemnation was widespread after Court’s comments and led to demands being made.

Tennis stars such as Robson, John McEnroe, and Martina Navratilova joined together to demand that the court named after Court be renamed. They proposed that the Australian Open venue be renamed the ‘Evonne Goolagong Arena.’ Evonne Goolagong is a former Australian Aboriginal player.

Many believe that the former World No.1 and seven-time Grand Slam champion deserves to have a stadium named after her. They decided that Court’s venue be renamed to commemorate Goolagong’s achievements. McEnroe and Navratilova held a sign saying ‘Evonne Goolagong Arena’’ in protest.
