Lesia Tsurenko’s coach reveals Steve Simon’s dirty politics during French Open to stop pro-Ukraine discussions
Lesia Tsurenko and her coach wanted to show a presentation on the horrors of the war in Ukraine during the French Open 2022.
Lesia Tsurenko and WTA Chief Executive Steve Simon
The WTA Chief Executive Steve Simon is facing the heat from the players. The Ukrainian players in particular has accused of being lenient with the Russian and Belarusian players and has not supported Ukrainian players in the way they deserve at this point of time. The lady who is leading this charge is current World No.95 Lesia Tsurenko.
She recently blamed for her sudden withdrawal from the match against Aryna Sabalenka in the Round of 32 match in the Indian Wells Open on Mr. Simon with whom she had a conversation before. She had a panic attack at the very last moment before the match was going to start. As a result, the Belarusian got a walkover and now she is going to play the final against Elena Rybakina.
Nikita Vlasov, coach of Lesia Tsurenko has also bashed Mr. Simon for failing to support and stand up for Ukraine and its people in these dark times. He reminisced one of the episodes during the French Open last year.
“Last year at Roland‐Garros, we tried to make a presentation to show the horror of what was happening at home. The tournament director, Amélie Mauresmo, immediately supported our proposal and promised to help us. But at the last moment, Steve Simon intervened and stopped us and there was no presentation,” he said.
Lesia Tsurenko is expected to play at the Miami Open 2023.

Lesia Tsurenko’s coach is disappointed with Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic also drew ire of Lesia Tsurenko’s coach Nikita Vlasov recently for not condemning his father’s actions during the Australian Open. His father, Mr. Srdjan Djokovic was sitting with the Pro-Russian demonstrators. These demonstrators were holding Russian flags and portraits of President Vladimir Putin in the Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne.
“It was a stupid situation .This is my personal opinion. Djokovic’s father said ‘Glory to Russia’ on camera and then claimed he was misunderstood. It’s not even a human act. If you said so, take responsibility for your words. Djokovic also didn’t have the courage to say frankly that he didn’t support his father’s behavior,” he said.
He also targeted Novak Djokovic himself for not condemning Russian war effort in Ukraine.
“At no point in his interviews did Novak directly condemn Russia’s actions in Ukraine, or call for the horror in our country to stop. Would it be a good time to use his status to put an end to all this, to call for peace? No, they support Russia. I was very surprised that this position was expressed so openly, so crudely. And on the occasion of such a competition,” he continued.
