It has been a year since the historic triumph of Lionel Messi winning the soccer World Cup. The Argentine completed his career by winning the trophy that he has been waiting for ever since that heartbreak in Maracana in 2014.
After waiting for eight long years and going through a lot of ups and downs, the Argentine finally conquered his final peak at the Lusail stadium on 18th December 2022. After a year of this historic feat, Messi sent a special signed jersey to Rafael Nadal.
In the final, Lionel Messi produced a magical performance against France scoring two goals. However, their celebrations were halted due to the clutch performance of Kylian Mbappe. In the end, the match went on to penalties and ultimately Messi’s Argentina went on to win the ultimate prize of the sport.
Rafa’s love for football is not unknown, as the Spaniard has a very vivid interest in football. The Spaniard’s Mallorca-based academy took to X to announce this news. The post announced that the jersey had been placed in Rafa Nadal’s Mallorca Museum. This gesture between the two veterans of their sports is winning hearts across the Internet.
Rafael Nadal and Football – a connection many don’t know about
Living in the Mallorca side of Spain, Rafael Nadal has been a very vivid football fan. Rafa has been one of the biggest supporters of the Real Madrid Club. Rafa’s uncle used to play for Barcelona, the rivals of Real Madrid. However, Rafa choose to support the Los Blancos.
Rafa has also urged in the past that he is willing to get involved with the club at a point after his career is over. The Spaniard said that the presidential role appeals to him.
The Spaniard is all set to return to professional tennis in the Australian Open 2024. After missing almost a year of action in the 2023 season, Rafa will be back for probably his last professional season. The fans have high expectations from him as he is coming back after such a long period.
