Iga Swiatek has been world No. 1 for the last 59 weeks and has been a force to reckon with. She came to Madrid Open as a champion from the previous tournament, Stuttgart Open. This a rematch between the world No.1 and 2 in two finals in succession. In Stuttgart Iga Swiatek defeated Sabalenka in straight sets. So she would be coming to this final with heaps of confidence. The Pole had a fairly easy run this week with dominant victories over the likes of Bernarda Pera, Petra Martic, and Veronika Kudermetova. She dropped just one set all week and will back herself to replicate the Stuttgart result.

Aryna Sabalenka is going to come with her own set of credentials on the court. The Belarusian has also shown some great performance on the court in Madrid. She has defeated tough opponents and some underdogs who were in great form. She defeated Maria Sakkari in the semifinal. Before that, she got the better of Mayar Sherif and teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva, both of whom had a great run in the tournament. Both of them had some great top-seeded wins and would have hoped to defeat Sabalenka but the Belarussian, who turned 25 yesterday, used her raw power and focus to best them.

This will be the 8th time the 2 will be meeting on the tour. This is also the 3rd title clash between them, 2 of which have come at the Stuttgart Open. Swiatek won both the previous finals. The H2H tally currently stands 5-2 in Swiatek’s favor. On clay, Iga Swiatek has won all three matches they have played.

Swiatek will have the upper hand going into the match given her record on clay and her recent form. She has the perfect arsenal for the red dirt and can lay a defensive web for Sabalenka. The Belarussian will have to attack from the word go if she wants to stay on par with Swiatek. Her forehand will be once again her biggest weapon. Expect a very tight tussle between the two best players on the planet currently with Swiatek edging past Sabalenka.

Prediction: Swiatek to win in straight sets.
