Martina Navratilova is a prominent voice in tennis sport has also shared her opinions on other topics as well from time-to-time which may perturb her. She has always been vocal on human rights and gender rights issues. Hence, she made her opinions clear on a news piece which came out of Great Britain.

This week a horrifying revelation shook the world. Former medical professionals at the London-based Gender Identity Development Service (GIDS), a unit of the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, describe how some kids were put on medication after just one in-person evaluation despite the fact that many of them had mental health or family concerns.

Compared to less than 2% of children in the general community, about a third of the young individuals sent to the service exhibited moderate to severe autism symptoms. However, most of them were given medications which can be associated with cross-hormone treatment without much assessments.

Martina Navratilova shared her pain when she heard the news in her latest social media post. She compared this incident with doping scandal of the 1960s and 1970s in which East German athletes were involved.

Only the minority of young people seen in the service are referred for any physical interventions. At the Tavistock and Portman we wholeheartedly support our staff to raise concerns, and have recently strengthened our mechanisms for doing so. Concerns relating to young people’s wellbeing are taken seriously and investigated,” The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust said as reported by the British newspaper The Sunday Times reported.

Martina Navratilova is suffering from double cancer

The nine-time Wimbledon champion is facing some serious physical health issues. She is suffering from both throat and breast cancer. The biopsy of the former World No.1 was taken after first finding a broadened lymph node in her neck back in November 2022 at the WTA Finals in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. However, when the results came out, it shocked her.

However, this is not the first time that this disease has gripped her. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. But after going under the knife and radiation therapy, she was declared cancer-free. Her spokesperson, informed the media about the intensity of her disease.

The cancer type is HPV (human papillomavirus) and this particular type responds really well to treatment. Both these cancers are in their early stages with great outcomes,” her spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Martina Navratilova who is known for her fighting spirit told the media that she will be able to fight this disease and will come out stronger.

This double whammy is serious but still fixable. I’m hoping for a favorable outcome. It’s going to stink for a while but I’ll fight with all I have got,” she said.

And she is not alone in this fight. Her fans and many of her contemporaries has wished her health. Tennis legends such as Chris Evert, Carla Suarez Navarro, Billie Jean King, Tracy Austin, wished her. Also, active players such as Ons Jabeur, and Eugenie Bouchard has also sent their prayers.

The tennis fraternity with bated breath is waiting for Martina Navratilova to return to the courts and tennis events healthy.
