Tennis legend Martina Navratilova took a swipe at the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her praise of Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. Navratilova made a scathing remark against Meloni who was on an official visit to India where he met with Modi and called him the ‘most loved leader’.
Navratilova pointed out the similarity between the political leanings of both leaders while launching an attack on Meloni. Italian and Indian prime ministers both belong to conservative ideology and on Meloni’s visit they seemed to have established a great rapport.
Rula Jeberal, a professor at the University of Miami, posted some statements criticizing the leaders. “PM Meloni to Modi “You are the most loved leader in the world & call Gandhi a patriot. Reminder Gandhi is seen as an enemy of Hindus & on his birthday, Modi’s state-sanctioned anti-muslim hate, pogroms/atrocities. Modi was banned from the US for his role in Gujarat Genocide,” her caption read.
Later, Navratilova supplemented the statement with her own criticism. “Meloni, a self-avowed fascist praising Modi tells you all you need to know about him,” she wrote.
