Martina Navratilova, the former Czech-American tennis player has played a major role in bringing a revolutionary change to women’s tennis inspiring millions around the world. The 18-time grand slam champion has advocated her voice for women’s rights and climate change for a long time.

Navratilova, the former world number one, expressed her anger and crtiticized the WTA authorties for their decision to abandon five-set game format at the WTA Finals which is the year-end championships. For a span of four years between 1984 to 1988, the WTA Finals championship match was played in the best-of-5 format. But after 1988 the format was changed to the best of 3 format. Navratilova expressed her concerns about WTA decision and questioned the reason for such a change during an interview.

Navratilova said that “I don’t know why they took it away because it was a big controversy when they started to receive us like let’s give it a go. Of course, we wanted to play when you get equal prize money and the majors, and the beef against that was well we only play two out of three. We had maybe 10 years of that and then they stopped it. Again I don’t know why they stopped it.
