Martina Navratilova condemns the ‘institutionalized’ racism after a report reveals mistreatment of a deadly disease

Tennis legend Martina Navratilova has been at the forefront to promote various social causes. Over the years the 18-time Grand Slam champion has taken a stand for gender equality, and LGBTQ+ rights among others. Other than social issues she has been vocal about politics as well.
This time, Navratilova tried to bring to attention the widespread racism present in the diagnosis and treatment of cystic fibrosis. A report by National Geographic cited the unsettling patterns of racism pervading into a deadly disease. The report shows how physicians often misdiagnose and delay the treatment of cystic fibrosis.
The 66-year-old was commenting on a tweet by David Beard, a writer for National Geographic. “Cystic fibrosis is a crippling disease. It’s often missed or misdiagnosed—unless you’re white. Why is that?” his caption read.
Navratilova commented on the tweet showing utmost concern about the cause. “Yikes… it just doesn’t stop. Institutionalized willfully as well as ignorant racism is everywhere. Literally EVERYWHERE,” she wrote.
Martina Navratilova reveals her routine while she visits the hospital for treatment

Navratilova is currently battling twin cancer after being diagnosed in January. She is undergoing treatment for the same in a hospital and recently she revealed her routine that involves her pet Lulu also.
“Lulu and Tennis Channel helping me pass the time in the hospital :)” Navratilova tweeted. She was enjoying a thrilling Qatar Open quarterfinal encounter between Daniil Medvedev and Australian player Christopher O’Connell.
She received huge support from her fans following the update. Responding to one message she shared her thoughts about the battle. “I know. Definitely no picnic… but I am lucky this didn’t happen to me 15 years ago….” she said.
