The Governor of the American state of Florida and a strong contender for Republican party Presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis is again in a thick of a controversy. This time, he has decided to change the Florida law that maintains the death penalty. The law is expected to be passed as the Republican Party commands a majority in the state’s legislature.

Earlier, the state’s justice system could only give a death sentence to a convict when every member of the jury was unanimous about the decision. However, this clause is what Mr. DeSantis wants to change. The new system suggests that a convict can be given the death penalty if the jury in a majority votes for the sentence.

“If you will never administer the punishment you just can’t be on the jury. Our law authorizes it. But you’re in a situation where you have 12 jurors and just one juror vetoes it, then you end up not getting the sentence,” Mr. DeSantis suggested the reasons to change the law.

Martina Navratilova criticizes Ron DeSantis for his hypocritical statements

The two-time French Open champion about ten days ago pointed out Ron DeSantis’ hypocrisy when he advocated for the enforcement of gun laws. However, he chose to walk a tightrope on this issue because he was also advocating for gun rights and the right of American citizens to bear arms.

The Governor does not want U.S. citizens bringing guns to events that Ron DeSantis and his family can attend. However, due to continuous pressure from firearms and rifle organizations in the USA, he has not banned the rights of American citizens to bear firearms.

The four-time US Open champion shared her views on social media regarding this issue.

DeSantis wanted to ban guns at event, but not to be blamed, emails show – another hypocritical stance by our governor- open carry for me but not thee when I am around. But grocery stores, schools, shops- A-OK!” her caption read.

Recent media reports suggest that Mr. DeSantis may be ahead of former President Donald Trump in the Republican Party’s nomination for the post of President of the United States of America in the 2024 elections.
