In a recent piece for Genspect, Navratilova stated her qualms regarding trans women in women’s sports, particularly those who have not had hormone treatment.

According to Navratilova’s article, a significant majority (69%) of trans women have not undergone hormone therapy, and an even larger majority (84%) have not undergone surgical procedures. According to her, this could provide them with a physical advantage in women’s sports because they maintain attributes biologically associated with men.

Navratilova also alluded to a previous remark made by tennis sensation Serena Williams. Williams rebuffed Andy Murray‘s offer to an exhibition match, claiming that she would lose 6-0, 6-0 since men have intrinsic physical advantages. Navratilova cited this statement as an example of how even great female athletes recognize physical differences between them and males in sports.

According to the article, even transgender women who have medical treatments may preserve performance advantages in terms of strength, power, height, weight, heart size, and oxygen capacity. Navratilova cites the example of Renee Richards, who excelled in women’s tennis despite transitioning and competing in her forties.
