Often social topics make headlines in the sporting world. They also tend to push over the sport itself at times. Social inequality doesn’t only attract the general audience, it often calls for celebrities to give their opinion too.
The example of Lia Thomas is a major one in this topic. Thomas being a trans athlete got a lot of attention as soon as she stepped onto the scene. However, was this attention really for the good? Not really. Initially, most felt she was queer and wanted to know more. She was successful. Soon this turned into people going against her thinking she has got an unfair advantage or power.
Swimming has been one search sport that hasn’t been kind to trans athletes. Tennis legend Martina Navratilova tweeted on this topic as she expressed disappointment towards this ‘transphobic’ nature of the sport. “How Women’s Swimming Got So Transphobic | The Nation- can’t believe the Nation actually gave the platform for this this kind of piece. Seriously. #misogyny in pure form… seems nobody in that piece gives a crap about females at all. #sciencenotidentity” read her tweet.
Navratilova herself is a part of the LGBTQ category. That never got in the way of her becoming a tennis legend. She clearly understands what it means to be accepted with love and how much of a difference it would make to someone being successful in their respective sport.
Good News: Navratilova is cancer free
A worry crept into the tennis world as fans were worried about one of their favorite stars’ health. The 18-time Grand Slam winner was diagnosed with throat and breast cancer. Cancer has its own worry meter. The disease attracts a good amount of concern.
The American pro was diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2010 and recently was diagnosed with throat cancer after she noticed an unusually large lymph node. However a relief for all tennis lovers. Navratilova has given the best news possible by announcing that she is cancer free now. Fans would pray that this stays forever and would wish her the best of health going forward.
