18-time Grand Slam singles champion Martina Navratilova has never shied away from sharing her thoughts on the issue of trans athletes’ participation in women’s sports.
The former World No. 1 has vehemently opposed their participation, saying that they are failed players in men’s sports. That’s not all; Navratilova has quite often taken to the social media site ‘X’ to speak against instances of such happenings.

This time, the former pro shared a news article that reported an instance of a member of the girls’ hockey team suffering grievous injuries while playing against a male opponent.
For context, a high school girl from Massachusetts had two teeth knocked out and suffered “significant facial injuries” when struck in the face during the match. The video of the incident that has been making the rounds on social media shows the female player screaming in agony immediately after the impact.
As expected, the incident led to the resurgence of voices against the Equal Rights Amendment, which allows boys and girls to compete under the opposite gender if the sport is unavailable to their own. Navratilova joined in on the bandwagon as she shared a post on the social media site ‘X’ expressing her rage against the incident.
Here’s the post shared by the tennis icon:
Sharing her disgust against the argument that supports the equal rights amendment, Navratilova wrote:

The issue of trans athletes’ participation in women’s sports has been a topic of hot contention. Former tennis World No. 1 Navratilova has never shied away from sharing her strong views on the topic.
A few days ago, Martina Navratilova praised MMA fighter Ansleigh Wilk for her win against a trans athlete. Advocating for a rule change, the former World No. 1 said that a guy had no business competing against female athletes.

Furthermore, Navratilova also defended famed author JK Rowling after the British writer got embroiled in a controversy over her apparent transphobic comments.
Earlier this year, Navratilova re-posted her support of a Nike boycott on social media because the sporting giant entered into a corporate sponsorship with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney to advertise a sports bra.
