“Masters 1000 field in a 500 event?” Tennis Twitter frenzied seeing a very strong draw in Astana featuring Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev, Carlos Alcaraz, and other top guns

Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic

The draw for the upcoming ATP 500 tournament in Astana, Kazakhstan has caught tennis fans on Twitter in a happy frenzy after it was revealed that eight of the top 13 players from the world will be in action during the same week.

Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, Andrey Rublev, Jannik Sinner, Hubert Hurkacz and Felix Auger Aliassime are all scheduled to be a part of the Kazakh ATP tournament that was launched only in 2020.

This means that a possibility ensues of all those above names facing each other in the Astana quarterfinals, something that would surely delight fans, as this doesn’t usually happen even in an ATP 1000 these days, leave alone ATP 500 tournaments.

Who is the favorite to win the tournament?

Djokovic has showed glittering form at Tel Aviv so far and if it were not for the best tennis from Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in his quarterfinal outing at Israel, he wouldn’t have gotten a game off the Serb. With such quality of tennis, it is only fair to question why Djokovic will be the fourth seed here at Astana, given he already won Wimbledon this year although it was stripped of ranking points by the ATP.

Medvedev has been far from the best lately and was beaten by Stanislas Wawrinka in his last match, by a player who is almost heading towards retirement. However, the Russian will have something to prove after being robbed off the opportunity to compete at Wimbledon earlier this year due to the ongoing Ukraine war situation. At the time, Medvedev was also World No.1.

Alcaraz, the current World No.1, has taken the tennis world by storm after winning the US Open this year. He plays an exciting brand of tennis and being only 19-years-old, has the agility to once again win in a strong field.

Others such as Tsitsipas, Rublev, Hurkacz, Felix and Sinner also have an outside chance, as they are all capable players and in good form. A few upsets and the situation could be far different from what we have predicted above.
