Sergiy Stakhovsky has been one of the many Ukrainians whose life turned upside down after Russia started the war in their country on 24th February 2022. Having retired from the sport in January this year, he signed up for the Ukrainian army immediately after the war broke out having ensured his family had a safe passage out of war-torn Ukraine.
Since then, Stakhovsky has been giving interviews and pledging people across the world to rally support for Ukraine and put international pressure on Russia in order to stop the war. Via his social media handles and managing interviews with news channels, he has been asking for any possible kind of support towards his country.
Stakhovsky has been also pleading for sanctions and restrictions on Belarus and Russia in all possible manners. Having expressed his disappointment in ATP and WTA for suspending only the Tennis Federations of Belarus and Russia and not the players as well, he had welcomed Wimbledon’s decision to not allow the players from the two nations to play at the Championships this year.
With tennis players now playing at various exhibition events, former Serbian pros Viktor Troicki and Janko Tipsarevic made their way to an exhibition event in Russia. Stakhovsky messaged the two players questioning their decision and then went on to share their replies through his Twitter handle possibly taken aback by the replies he received.

Stakhovsky has been relying massively upon his followers and other social media users as he advocates the cause of Ukraine. Within the tennis community, only World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has been still pinning a Ukrainian flag to her cap and voicing her opinion on the subject since the war broke out and had also expressed her disappointment in her colleagues for not following up on their words.
The screenshots shared by Stakhovsky quickly went viral and led to many reactions in favor of Stakhovsky and against the two Serbians of with Troicki being the current Davis Cup captain of Serbia.
While many Twitter users had their say on the topic, neither of Troicki nor Tipsarevic replied again to Stakhovsky.
