Naomi Osaka and Serena Williams
In their recent findings, sports business website Sportico has found that only tennis legend Serena Williams and four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka are the only female sportspersons in the top 100 richest sportspersons according to last year’s list. While Osaka stands at the top of the podium in terms of earnings among women sportspersons, Serena Williams finishes second as they are the only two female sportspersons on the entire list.
Naomi Osaka is also the highest earner in the list of under 25 age and leads sports personalities like reigning F1 champion Max Verstappen and Paris Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe. Osaka earns $53.2 million according to the report as he rakes up most of her money from endorsements. She is definitely one of the leading personalities in the tennis circuit and therefore it is not a surprise to see her top the women’s charts.
Serena Williams on the other hand is second on the women’s list and despite not playing for so long, it is her endorsements that allow her to mint so much money. The 40-year-old has been away from the WTA tour since her Wimbledon outing last year when she suffered a leg injury and had to withdraw from the Championships.
The list is led by Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, the NBA talisman who earns a whopping $126.9 million followed by PSG magician Lionel Messi. He is followed by the football magician Lionel Messi. The top 5 list includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar Jr. and boxing champ Canelo Alvarez respectively.

Serena Williams has not featured on tour this year and Naomi Osaka recently returned from her break
Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka have not been that active on the WTA tour off late. The 23-time Grand Slam winner has not played since last year at the Wimbledon when she had to withdraw from the Championships as she suffered from a leg injury. She since then has given several hints about returning back to the WTA tour and there is a possibility of Williams turning up at the Wimbledon later this year.
For Osaka, things are slightly different as she took a break to address her mental health issues. The Japanese star started off her season with a third-round exit followed by a long break. She returned to the Indian Wells but the former World No.1 was nowhere near her best. However, when showed great fight and determination at the Miami Open as she reached the finals. She did not have a great Madrid Open campaign as she suffered from an Achilles injury and that forced her to withdraw from the Italian Open aswell.
