As the Japanese tennis star, Naomi Osaka is all set to make a solid comeback to the sport after being missing in action for more than a year now, she has high expectations for her return as she aims to dominate the women’s tennis circuit once again.

The former World No.1 is preparing to play at the Brisbane International and in a recent interview with Brisbane International shed some light on her chances going into the WTA 500 event. Adding further, the newly turned mother stated:

That’s a tough question because I haven’t played in more than a year. I don’t know. I think I’ve given myself the biggest chance to do well, but at the same time, I haven’t had any match play. I think I’m just embracing the fact that it’s my first tournament in a very long time. I’m just trying to have fun and do well at the same time.

The 4 time Grand Slam winner is unsure about her chances at the Brisbane Open early next year. This tournament will serve as the preparation tournament for the Australian Open 2024. The two-time US Open champion played her last match in September last year. She had also withdrawn from this year’s Australian Open after announcing her pregnancy with her rapper boyfriend, Cordae.

Talking about how being a mother and going through labor has made her tough, the 2 time Australian Open stated that giving birth was one of the hardest things she had done. Moreover, she would like to use that as inspiration to mount her comeback, and also be a role model for her new child.

Naomi Osaka gears up for a much-awaited comeback to the sport

The Japanese tennis player played her last match at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in September last year where she crashed out in the second round itself. After that, she took a brief break due to injuries, and later at the start of the 2023 season, she announced her pregnancy. This caused her to miss the entire season, as she gave birth to her first child, Shai, in July earlier this year.

Naomi Osaka is eager to make a strong comeback to the sport as she wants to make it worth it for her daughter. The 4 time Grand Slam champion is not only aiming to make a comeback, she also aims to dethrone the current World No.1, Iga Swiatek, and reclaim her lost title to get back on the top of the world rankings. She hopes to win a Grand Slam in the coming year and has been training rigorously to get back out there.
