2022 Wimbledon finalist, Nick Kyrgios has further opened up about his future plans if he manages to win a Grand Slam. “Honestly, I probably would” he emphasized this time talking about the reasons behind his consideration. Kyrgios made headlines earlier this week when he first gave a hint about the same.
The 27-year-old Kyrgios just finished one of the most successful years of his career. The Aussie reached the final of Wimbledon this year and won the doubles title at the Australian Open in January. Winning a singles Grand Slam is Kyrgios’s only major goal of his career now.
“Especially being from Australia as well, there’s just so much travel, so much time away from family, so much time away from friends”, Kyrgios told Eurosport. “You’re just missing milestones in the family, you’re just not having a normal life really,” the Aussie further elaborated on the reasons behind his thought.
Continuing on, “No other tennis player that’s not from Australia gets that,” said the world No. 22, on how most action happening in Europe puts the Australian players at disadvantage. Just a few days back, Kyrgios, for the first time, gave a hint of his future plans if he wins a Grand Slam. “Hopefully I can just win a Slam and retire“, Kyrgios had said.
Nick Kyrgios: Will 2023 bring the maiden singles Grand Slam for the Aussie
The 27-year-old Nick Kyrgios was one of the best performers on the tour this season. Controversies aside, Kyrgios managed to reach the final of Wimbledon this year where he met Serbian star, Novak Djokovic. Though Kyrgios eventually lost to the 21-time major champion, he did not go down without a fight.
Getting back to the top 20 of the rankings and clinching the doubles title at the Australian Open were some of the other highlights for Kyrgios this year. It is this magnificent form that Kyrgios’ would be hoping to carry on the next season. So, will 2023 be the year when Kyrgios finally win his maiden singles title?
As far as Kyrgios is concerned, he is very much looking forward to that. He is participating in the United Cup doubles event starting in the last week of December. The event will act as a warm-up for the Aussie going into the Australian Open. Nothing will top that if Kyrgios realizes his dream in front of the home crowd at the season’s first Grand Slam.
