“Smacking people around” is Nick Kyrgios’ 2024 goal as his comeback draws closer than ever!
The Aussie is on his way to return from his injury that has kept him out of action since June 2023.

Former World No. 13 Nick Kyrgios has been out of action for nearly eight months now. He last played at the 2023 Stuttgart Open back in June. He lost in the first round itself to Yibing Wu in straight-sets.
It was the only match the Aussie played in the entire season. He had earlier injured himself during the Asian hardcourt swing in the 2022 season. The injury in Tokyo saw him miss the last three months of action on the Tour and kept him out till June 2023.
He was expected to return to the Tour starting on home soil. But his recovery plans were foiled at the last minute forcing him to withdraw. He missed his second consecutive Australian Open as a result. But the entertainment didn’t stop as he turned commentator during the fortnight of the Grand Slam event.
As fans await a comeback update from him, the Aussie took to his Instagram stories today to drop a small hint. He uploaded a video where he could be seen getting some physio session lying on the bed. His physio, Will Maher, has long been associated with him and Kyrgios thanked him yet again.
He uploaded the video to Lil Baby‘s famous song from 2021, ‘Emotionally Scarred’. In a typical Kyrgios fashion, he also put a small message to his competitors and fans.
Progress been real... I'll be back smacking people around soon.Said Kyrgios on Instagram while also thanking his physio.
Nick Kyrgios’ poor luck with the injury in 2022
The Australian had a massive turnaround in the 2022 season. Having withdrawn from his first few events of the season, first due to asthma and then due to Covid-19, he made his season debut at his home slam, the Australian Open.
He lost in the second round to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev in the singles. Kyrgios however went on to win the doubles title with childhood buddy Thanasi Kokkinakis. He next played in the Sunshine Double, reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells and the fourth round in Miami.
He returned on clay for the first time since 2019 and made it to the semis in Houston. The Aussie however skipped the French Open. He made back-to-back semis on grass in Stuttgart and Halle before having an injury scare in Mallorca. To the delight of many, he played at the Wimbledon Championships having recovered in time.
He finished runner-up to three-time defending champ Novak Djokovic. The duo also officially started their ‘bromance‘ that’s been going on well since then. Kyrgios then ended his trophy draught of three years winning the ATP-500 event in Washington.
At the US Open, he made it to the quarter-finals with his run looking set for another deep finish. He was visibly frustrated after losing the epic five-setter to Karen Khachanov.
It was his penultimate event as he injured himself in Tokyo a few days later. He finished the season ranked No. 22 in singles and No. 13 in doubles. Like him, many wonder if he was not injured, could he have returned to his absolute best. With no way to realize the answer, fans can expect only for a good return from him.
