Nicola Sturgeon ‘Welcomes’ Andy Murray’s desire to being her successor for the post of First Minister of Scotland

The resignation of Nicola Sturgeon as Scotland’s First Minister and as head of the Scottish National Party (SNP) has sent shockwaves across Great Britain, but it has also given a great opportunity to its successor(s) to build on the foundation she had laid. She is stepping down after being 8 years in office. And the speculation over her successor has increased.
Yesterday, British professional tennis player Andy Murray also threw in his hat for the top job. He joked that he is considering to come into politics after retirement. He sees politics as a future career option. He took to social media to show his intent.
“Interesting vacancy. Was looking to get into politics when I finish playing,” his caption read.
To this, Nicola Sturgeon also gave an interesting reply. It looks like she too is impressed with the former World No. 1’s credentials.
“I know I said I wouldn’t endorse anyone as my successor, but….” her caption read.
Nicola Sturgeon did not give any particular reason for making such a sudden move. However, she did acknowledge that this was the right time to make the difficult decision.
“In my head and in my heart I know that time is now. That it is right for me, for my party and for the country,” she said.

Resurgence of Andy Murray this season
Andy Murray is one of the most popular tennis players in the world. He is considered by many as one of the finest British players of all time. Together with Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, he is an important part of the The Big Four. However, the last few seasons have not been excellent for him. He had to miss out on many tournaments because of his injuries.
However, this year, has been fantastic for him so far. Although, he could not win any tournament, but his passion and tremendous energy won the hearts of many tennis fans. He started this season by participating in the Adelaide International 1 tournament. However, he was knocked out by Sebastian Korda in the first round itself.
The three-time Grand Slam champion then participated in the Australian Open 2023. Nobody gave him any chance to be able to reach till the advanced stages of this tournament. However, with sheer grit and determination, he defeated Matteo Berretini and Thanasi Kokkinakis in back-to-back marathon matches which were decided in five sets in the first two rounds of the competition respectively. His run at the Melbourne Park ended by losing to Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round.
