Australian tennis professional Nick Kyrgios is known for his outbursts of anger on the courts. The talented but temperamental player has made some bad press during his career due to his racquet smashing and abusing the opponents or umpires in frustration. During this year’s Wimbledon Championships, he had some fiery exchanges with the Greek opponent Stefanos Tsitsipas during the match.
As the latest addition to his on-court misbehaviors, Kyrgios lost his cool on the umpire and the line judge during the inaugural World Tennis League in Dubai, a non-ATP/WTA-affiliated exhibition mixed-gender team tennis tournament.
During his clash with Canadian player Felix Auger-Alliasime on Monday afternoon, Kyrgios collided with a line judge trying to hit a return. Kyrgios got the ball back in play but then lost the point on the next shot due to which he lost his cool.
Kyrgios screamed at the line judge saying,” Why didn’t you move if you saw me coming,”. Next, he got into a tussle with the umpire in the next game about Auger-Alliasime’s serve going out.
Kyrgios screamed at the umpire again after an incorrect call, “That was wide, then why aren’t you calling it? I don’t have to correct everything that you think is in.” What are you talking about?”, he went on.
Nick Kyrgios set to represent Australia in the upcoming United Cup tournament
The 27-year-old Nick Kyrgios just announced that he will represent his country in the United Cup mixed doubled event, marking the kick-off of the next year. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist will partner with Ajla Tomljanovic for the tournament scheduled to start at the end of December in Sydney.
“I don’t play so much mixed doubles anymore but what I love about mixed doubles is, it’s for the fans. That’s the most important thing,” Kyrgios said showing some excitement about the event. “It’s just a great event to have, an event where females and males come together as one to represent their nation,” the 27-year-old further added.
The tournament will give Kyrgios some preparation time for the 2023 Australian Open where he is hoping to clinch his first Grand Slam singles title of his career. Earlier this year, Kyrgios won the doubles title at the Australian Open.
