Novak Djokovic and Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II’s death at the age of 96 has left the UK in a state of public mourning. The longest ruler of British history, Queen Elizabeth II passed away peacefully a few days ago, and ever since then, the world is currently at a standstill given the stature she had. Interestingly, it is a well-known fact that the Queen is a huge tennis fan and on multiple occasions has made a visit to the All England Club during Wimbledon.

Earlier this year, the Queen had rejected a request from Novak Djokovic’s father, Srdjan, for his son’s entry into the Australian borders. Djokovic was denied entry into Australia earlier this year due to his vaccination status and hence wasn’t allowed to defend his Australian Open title. Australia was once a British colony and still consider the British queen as the head of their state.

During Djokovic’s short stay in Australia, his father had requested the Queen to look into the matter and urged her to protect his son’s human rights and stop the undue political prosecution.

“I call on the Queen of Britain, Elizabeth, the leader of the Commonwealth, to intervene and protect the human rights of my son Novak Djokovic and to stop the political prosecution that has been carried out against him since he came to Australia,” Srdjan Djokovic said at that time. The Queen apparently didn’t get involved in the matter and completely ignored it.

After being forced to miss out on the US Open due to his vaccination status, Novak Djokovic was supposed to play the Davis Cup this week but withdrew a few days ago citing personal reasons. He will now directly be seen at the Laver Cup and from there, will play an ATP 250 event in Tel Aviv where he’ll be the top seed. He will then play a couple of tournaments before eventually playing the Paris Masters and the ATP Finals.
