Tennis sensation Novak Djokovic continues his amazing run at the Australian Open as he advances to the semi-finals. With this win, Djokovic reached another milestone by sharing a record with his all-time idol, Monica Seles.

Djokovic was up against the in-form American Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. Both players fought hard for every point, but it was Djokovic who displayed his experience on the court and won the match to advance to his 11th Australian Open semi-finals.

With this win, the 24-time Grand Slam title champion equaled his idol Monica Sales‘ record of 33 matches Australian Open win streak at Melbourne Park.

Extremely delighted with the record, Djokovic revealed that he often heard Seles’ name growing up, considered her his childhood idol, and looked up to the tennis great. 

I was hearing a lot about Monica, Monica this, Monica that, Monica eats this, Monica sleeps this much, Monica practices this way. So Monica was definitely one of my childhood idols and heroes, and I looked up to her very much.

Having heard Seles’s name almost everywhere, Djokovic was aware of her incredible achievements and believed that she would have achieved a lot more if it weren’t for the unfortunate Germany incident. Nonetheless, he has only great words for the tennis legend and is glad to share the record with her.

Serbian great Novak Djokovic beat his long-time rival Taylor Fritz in an incredible match of tennis as he advances to the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

Winning in four sets, the Serbian booked the first spot in the top 4. With this win, he achieved a record of 700 hard-court wins in his career. He is just behind the iconic Roger Federer, who has 783 wins on hard courts. Inching closer to his 100th singles title, Djokovic looks to defend his title in Melbourne. 

Advancing to his 11th semi-final, the 24-time Grand Slam champion has a 100% win record in 10 semi-finals. Having never lost in the semi-finals at the Australian Open, Djokovic will look to continue this streak and achieve more. 

The 36-year-old will face the young Italian Jannik Sinner, who is fresh off a win against Andrey Rublev. With three back-to-back wins against Djokovic, Sinner would pose a huge threat to his title defense, as both stars promise an exciting clash in Melbourne.
