Novak Djokovic
Serbian Great Novak Djokovic is breaking tennis records, one by one. The most recent one was to break Steffi Graf’s record of being No.1 for the longest duration, 378 weeks. Steffi Graf‘s record was 377 weeks and established in an altogether different era. Novak also holds the record for winning the most number of Grand Slams titles, 22, the same as Rafael Nadal. Apart from all these achievements, Novak Djokovic is eyeing an Olympic gold, which has been elusive so far.
After entering the quarter-finals in the Dubai Open, Djokovic talked about his expectations from the Paris Olympics. ” Well, desire has been always there. I mean, without desire, I feel like there’s no motion in any sense of that word. So I always try to be very clear with myself what the goals are, what I want from tennis, competitive tennis,” he said.
Djokovic continued to talk about his approach on the court, “This is the way I’ve been brought up and been taught by some of the key people in my life, of course including my parents and some of the coaches I had early on. This kind of mentality really helped me to always be so devoted to the game. I always remind myself that it’s the willpower, the desire to succeed that’s essential ingredient in the whole formula.”
Novak Djokovic once said that the Olympics is the fifth Grand Slam

The Serbian superstar always wanted to win an Olympic single gold. To add more value to the hunt, he himself in 2016 called the Olympics as fifth Grand Slam. According to a Reuters report, the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist said then, “You know, we have the best players in the world participating in arguably the fifth Grand Slam [at the Olympics]. It’s of that importance for all of us, even more, because it happens every four years.“
Djokovic is looking almost invincible even at 35 years of age and will look to play his best in Paris Olympics 2024. He missed his chances to win a medal last time in 2021 when he lost to Alexander Zverev in the semi-finals and then against Pablo Carreno Busta in the bronze medal match. He is now hopeful about the next Olympics.
As the Serbian said, “Last of course, a lot of things have to come together. You have to work, have a good team of people around you. You have to have luck as well, which I did in life. I look forward to Olympics. I hope that I’ll be able to play healthy for next year in Paris Olympic Games. It’s going to be played on clay in Roland Garros, so I’m familiar with those grounds.
“I hope, yeah, best Olympic result for me will come there.”
