2023 has been a year of breaking records for the Serbian great Novak Djokovic. He has had a remarkable year so far, with three Grand Slam titles and a year-end ATP Finals title. He previously did it back in 2015, and now he is the second player after Federer to achieve this.
Roger Federer has always been an icon in tennis. He holds the record for the most number of years to win three Grand Slams and followed it up with the ATP Finals win. He did it back in 2004, 2006, and 2007. In all those three years, Federer won the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open three times and ended the year with the season-ending trophy.
Now, Novak Djokovic is just behind the iconic Swiss player. He previously did it back in 2015 by winning the Australian Open, Wimbledon, the US Open, and the ATP Finals. He repeated that year in the current season.
The 36-year-old has had a great record at every tournament he has played this year. He has landed in the finals of almost every tournament he has played in except the recent Davis Cup.
Novak Djokovic’s records against Roger Federer
Back in their primes, Novak Djokovic was a huge rival to both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. He gave them tough competition in every Grand Slam and has now even surpassed both the tennis greats in many aspects of the game.
Federer previously had many records, which were eventually beaten by Djokovic. From the number of Grand Slams to titles to the number of appearances, the Serb continues to extend his lead against the former No. 1. Djokovic also leads their H2H at 23:27.
Recently, there have been a few speculations after the Serbian revealed that he cannot be friends with either Nadal or Federer because they are strong rivals on the tour.
In a recent interview with Marca, Djokovic revealed that he is uncomfortable sharing his secrets and ups and downs with rivals, and this is the main reason for him to not be friends with Federer and Nadal.
However, the Serbian added that he has nothing but respect for the best of the game and said that he might be more relaxed with them after all of them retire. Even fans are eager to witness the friendship between the big three after years of rivalry.
