Novak Djokovic has overtaken his rival, Rafael Nadal, in the all-time ATP-level finals reached list. The Serbian beat Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals of the Adelaide International to reach the 131st ATP-level final of his career. In the process, he overtook Nadal, who has reached 130 finals, and is now sitting in fourth place on the list.

The 21-time Grand Slam champion is second to Nadal in the all-time Grand Slam title list but has now overtaken the Spaniard when it comes to playing at ATP events’ finals. The Serbian legend has won 91 of those finals compared to Nadal’s 103. Djokovic has participated in 32 Grand Slam tournament finals, winning 21. He also holds the record for the most weeks spent as World Number 1 at 373 weeks.

He has broken multiple records since he landed in Australia for the Adelaide International. He won his 100th match Down Under when he beat Denis Shapovalov. Djokovic broke Roger Federer’s record of most matches played against top ten ranked players when he played his 348th such match against Medvedev. He now also has the highest win percentage ever on the ATP tour.

Novak Djokovic has started the 2023 season on fire. His first match ended with a defeat in the Adelaide International doubles. But Djokovic then went on a four-match winning streak in the singles format, leading to him being in the finals. He has yet to drop a set at the Adelaide International on the way.

The Serbian will be delighted with his excellent record ahead of the Australian Open. The man with the most Australian Open titles ever, Djokovic will be gunning to win his 10th title this time. He enters the first Grand Slam tournament of the year as the fourth seed. His quest for the title will begin on the 16th of January.

A glimpse of Novak Djokovic’s 2023 season so far

Djokovic is off to a fine start this season. He chose to participate in the Adelaide International to prepare for the Australian Open. He also participated in both singles and doubles to get more games in.

Though he lost the doubles clash, Djokovic is currently 4-0 in the singles and into the finals. He defeated Denis Shapovalov and Daniil Medvedev convincingly on the way. The tournament has not been without its own scares. Djokovic was forced to take a medical timeout to deal with a hamstring issue but recovered to beat Medvedev.

He will now face 22-year-old Sebastian Korba in the final. Djokovic will lift his 92nd ATP title if he gets past Korba on Sunday. Regardless, he is in a great place to mount a challenge for the Australian Open, which begins soon.
