Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic

Serbian World No.2 Novak Djokovic lauded the American superstar Serena Williams for her incredible records and for being an icon of the sport. He was talking in a recent interview where he also mentioned that he does not regret the opportunities missed to play in the USA due to his Covid status of not being vaccinated. The Serbian, with 22 Grand Slams, is still trailing Margaret Court with 24 Grand Slam titles and Serena Williams, winner of 23 Grand Slam titles.

As Djokovic said, “She keeps, keeps inspiring myself, all the tennis players around the world. And she’s been really an icon of our sport for so many years“. The Serbian has always kept his friendship with the American Great and these remarks are a reflection of his respect for her.

Novak Djokovic will be looking to beat the all-time record of Margaret court. In a year where he beat the most weeks at World No.1 record held by Steffi Graf, this record will also be on his mind. With the federal authorities in the US planning to remove the state of emergency due to Covid in May 2023, he has three opportunities this year to break the biggest record of tennis.
